The Devil’s Trick

The Champion of the Host above

And captain of my destiny

In you alone,

You reign above

As Lord of all

This song readily comes to mind with the thoughts I have to share on the Devil’s trick. I used to think, overcoming the flesh, resisting temptation and total deliverance from sin was the hardest thing to do as a believer in Christ.

But with the help of the Holy Spirit, I realized, one can truly be free from the hold of sin. Because a new heart will be created within you such that the desires to do those things will cease to exist.

Ezekiel 36:26 KJV – A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh

One thing I didn’t prepare for is what i call the trick or gimmicks of the devil:

1. Fear which leads to faithlessness

2. Guilt trip

3. Still voice of negativity or simple put- discouragement.

To have fear is to displace the place of faith in one’s life, and I’m not talking about physical fear, I’m talking about those inner fear of things we think might happen, which can also be linked with guilt tripping.

Eh! God, the devil is perfect at reminding you of your shortcomings that you begin to think God is punishing you for so many things you have done wrong, making you forget the place of His endless  mercies.

And you see this discouragement part, can be so tricky, because the Holy Spirit is here to direct us on what to do and what not to do. Soon I came to realize that, the Holy Spirit doesn’t use words like “You can’t do it” If His direction is in the negative of what you’re asking of Him, it is simply “No” or “Do not do it”.

But you see the devil’s still voice?

“Is it something you can do?” “This is beyond you” “how will you get resources”

It’s always, condescending, with lack of assurance or remembrance of the confidence you have in Christ. This is where studying the word of God comes in.

Attacking a fearful thought of untimely death with “It is written, I shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord in the land of the living..” will shut the devil up.

Daniel 3:15-17, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego made their boast in Christ, and God came and manifested himself to  change the story for the whole nation.

Positive words, positive declarations is one of the wisest ways to triumph over this trick the devil has mastered. Because he knows the power that lies in our tongue, he awaits judgement to use our words as his reference.

Proverbs 18:21 KJV – Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof

Somewhere in James says “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.” – James 1:26 KJV

You can’t blame our African mothers who are quick to reject the slightest negative word said, especially when it comes to death, because you can’t afford to be loose with your tongue, it carries power.

Always remember, as a believer in Christ, your being and living centres around the 9 fruits of the spirit.

Yes, it is okay to focus on overcoming the power of sin with the help of the Holy Spirit. We can be perfect just like our heavenly father is – MATT 5:48

It is also paramount to guard your heart, be discerning in the spirit, be wise in your sayings and doings, and put your life in check with those 9 cardinal points.

May the Lord help us in this Kingdom race in Jesus Name.

Side note- The struggle with sin is real and tough, but with the constant word of God in your heart, you will be victorious. You can Confess this scripture now, while you allow the Holy spirit take total control.

Psalm 51:10 – Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Peace and Love to you.
